A not unreasonable start to the season, against two teams of opposition in the one game, after Redfield swapped a whole new team onto the field at half time. There is a reason you can normally only use 16 players per game, but our fitness and determination held out against higher division opposition for the draw. Yet despite a numerical advantage we could still have won this game, with the post being hit and a few more close chances, while our defence with new keeper Hawk held pretty strong, conceding two goals of great quality.
Howard opened the scoring with a shot rebounding in off the post. After further chances, our two new forwards Matt and Owen combined for Owen to slot the ball away, and he later held off the Redfield defence for his second later on. With Jason, Alan, Mark and Jon all getting plenty of running on the wings we kept creating chances, with Jesse and Scott pulling the strings in the centre. Dan and Jumbi marshalled the defence well with Lachlan and Roger providing width at the back.
A decent test of fitness to warm up on and plenty of positives to take away along with the sunburn.
